Spotlight on Reincarnation:  It’s all been done before

By KELLY SULLIVAN

HOPKINTON - We are born, we live, we die. We go through the process of life wondering what comes next. What happens when this life is over? Hopkinton resident, Patti Towhill, attempts to help her clients find the answer to this question.

“We are made up of energy,” Towhill explained during a recent interview. “Energy is never destroyed. It is just transformed to another form of energy.

When she was about fifteen years old, Towhill began reading books about reincarnation. “It made perfect sense,” she said. “I understood at a young age that there is an important point to grasp and that is: You don’t HAVE a soul, you ARE Soul. You HAVE a body. Soul wears a body like a cloak.”

Towhill spent years studying with experts in the subject of past lives. She eventually founded “Transformative Therapies for Conscious Living”, providing several different types of therapies to those suffering from physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual disturbances. As a minister of spiritual counseling, a certified past life regression therapist and a certified Resonance Repatterning® practitioner, Towhill helps clients to transform negative unconscious patterns through non-hypnosis therapy.

It is Towhill’s belief that our present lives contain direct consequences of our past lives. “We don’t consciously remember past lives because we would be overwhelmed,” she said. “So that veil of forgetfulness is actually a gift. Having to handle all that information, for some people, would be very traumatic but most people suspect that they have lived before.”

Repetitive thoughts, recurring dreams, phobias and other unconscious patterns in each of our lives are often indicators of another life we’ve lived. Towhill feels that even unexplained physical conditions can be left over from a deeper past.

“You take into your next life the last strong physical sensations you had,” she said. “As well as your final emotions.” In the same way, talents seem to carry over into the next  incarnation as well. “”We tend to carry the same gifts in each life,” she said.

There is evidence to suggest that souls stay in “packs”, meaning that your friends, relatives and even   enemies will share each lifetime. “Souls tend to stay in groups”, Towhill explained. “It doesn’t mean that they will have unlimited contact with each other in each lifetime, but the association will still exist.”

As far as predestination, Towhill does not believe in it. “I believe in absolute free will,” she said. “We are presented with opportunities and we decide to go one way or         another.” This free will also determines our future lives. “We get to choose our next incarnations, with guidance,” she said.

So what is the point of life itself? “Each lifetime is like going to school for a term,” she said. “The goal is to learn how to give and   receive divine love. It’s to learn how to respect life and consciousness, to learn how to master the physical as well as the emotional body. We must become conscious of everyone’s connection to each other.”

Why then, Towhill was asked, are most people so afraid of dying? “Fear of death is only in the mind,” she said. “Death is simply going from one room into another. Soul isn’t scared. Our minds need to fear death in order to insure human survival.

We are all here to serve a purpose, Towhill believes. Yet, sometimes we are not able to overcome the difficulties of a past life in order to achieve what we need to in this one. “We’re all a composite of everything we’ve ever been,” she said. “Sometimes we need to realize what was then and what is now. The way to do this is to remember the past and resolve things.”

Towhill makes it clear that what she provides is not a ‘psychic reading’. “Having someone tell you who you were in a past life is not therapeutic”, she said. “That’s just information. When I take a client into therapy, they speak on behalf of their earlier self and they remember    information. I ask no leading questions. I influence nothing.”

Sessions usually last two hours and many clients only need one session to resolve a very specific past life issue. “People are usually able to go forward in life after a session, because they have discovered more about who they really are,” she said.
